Sustainable practices - don't need a supply chain policy? Think again!

Check out the article below. It's insightful, and not an isolated incident. In fact, I think it's the wave of the future.

The article is about Apple. You know them. And, the results of their supply chain auditing, which they have made public. What did they find?

The report says their audits found "a number of violations including breaches in pay, benefits and environmental practices in plants in China".

sustainable supply chain analysis by RMA - Apple has shown that they are very important!

Will this resonate with customers? You bet it will.

And more to the point, it has resonated with Apple, who will likely make changes. Quickly. They don't want to give any indication whatsoever that they are responsible in any way for underage labor or negative environmental impacts. That's not the way that company works.

Read the article here.

What does this mean to you? Apple took the time to evaluate their entire supply chain that they are part of - call it societal sustainable practices if you will - and will make changes accordingly. More to the point, they have come clean with the results. Transparency.

Do YOU have a supply chain policy? Have you audited your supply chain, for even the most basic practices (other than price charged)? Do you know where your suppliers stand with regards to environmental policy and practices, sustainable practices, or societal factors?

If YOU did a complete and thorough supply chain audit, what would it show? Would you be willing to publicize it to your customers, your shareholders, your community, the world?

If not, then it's time for a change.

If you've never considered a supply chain policy, or done an audit, then it's time to consider one.

Want your company to be the next Apple? Start with a supply chain audit and policy.
