As our world continues to become more and more technologically advanced and online-based, you may be left wondering whether it’s possible for you to skip the usual in-person environmental training session, and instead knock out your SPCC Annual Training online when it’s more convenient for you and your schedule.
If this sounds familiar, let’s tackle the subject and quickly discuss whether or not you can take online SPCC Training options instead of a traditional on-site, or classroom-style training session.
Whether you like it or not, SPCC Training is required annually. That is, if you have an SPCC Plan, anyone who handles oil or is involved in any aspect of your SPCC Plan must take training at least once every year. If you don’t, you could face harsh penalties from regulatory agencies for failing to do so.
We get it – scheduling a training session isn’t easy. With conflicting schedules, vacation time & sick days, emergencies, geographically separated facilities, etc., coordinating SPCC Training can quickly turn into a serious headache.
The answer is yes, you can take an online SPCC Training course as your form of annual SPCC training. Not only can you, but in this day and age, you should! No more juggling schedules missed webinars or stepping out of a training session because you received an urgent phone call. With online training, you can train at your own speed, on your own time, whenever it’s convenient for you (or your staff members)!
Win-Win? We think so.
That is going to depend. We cover that in another article called What should SPCC Training include?, but suffice to say, an online SPCC Training course is going to depend on who develops the course, the length, content, features, who the course is targeted for (such as an industry or state), and other various factors.
Because of this, online SPCC Training can be a generic, high-level fluff piece, or a target, industry-specific training course. Remember, since your taking a training course that may apply to many, many types of facilities across the map, certain aspects of an SPCC Training course online will be generic and cover some basic topics.
Having said that, not all online SPCC training is created equally. We’ve taken training courses throughout our professional careers which were top-notch, while others have been laughably bad (it’s not funny if you have to pay for them though)! Just like anything else, we encourage you to make sure the training you take online is applicable and right for you. A marina wouldn’t want to take an asphalt industry-specific SPCC Training course, whereas a management level member of your organization might not need to take SPCC Training which dives into spill response best practices. It all depends on what you need, and what best fits those needs.
We get it, you have a business to run and don’t have a background in environmental regulations like we do, and that not everybody can make sense of the overly wordy, technical regulatory language often used in environmental guidance documentation provided by governmental agencies. So, we usually recommend finding a reputable online source for your training needs who’s qualified and knows what they’re talking about. If you’re in the market, we do offer an online SPCC Training course which is applicable to a wide variety of facilities, and includes all the information you’ll need to stay in compliance with your SPCC Plan.
Here are some details about our online SPCC Training course:
