Understanding the Cost of Custom Environmental Training
Environmental training pricing can vary widely because training can take many different forms. Some organizations rely on off-the-shelf courses or internal presentations. Others need custom training built around their operations, risks, and workforce.
This page focuses on custom environmental training development. That means working with a firm like RMA to design and deliver training that fits your facility, your people, and your compliance obligations, instead of forcing generic content to work where it doesn’t.
Custom environmental training costs vary because the scope can look very different from one organization to the next. Training might be a one-time on-site session, a reusable slide deck for internal delivery, a recorded video course, or a fully interactive online training program.
At RMA, custom environmental training projects typically range from $2,500 to $25,000. That range reflects how flexible training development can be, from straightforward content built for internal use to more polished, repeatable training designed for long-term deployment across teams or facilities.
We know that’s a wide range. That’s because training can be simple or highly produced, used once or reused for years, delivered live or online, and priced per project or per learner. The calculator below helps narrow that range based on what kind of training you’re looking to build.
Custom environmental training is about building something that actually fits your operation, your risks, and your workforce. Instead of forcing generic content to work, we design training around how your facility operates and what your people need to know. Here's what that can include:
✓ A training needs assessment to understand your regulatory obligations, site-specific risks, audience, and how training will be used now and in the future.
✓ Custom training content development built specifically for your facility, processes, and requirements, not pulled from off-the-shelf slides or generic videos.
✓ Flexible delivery options including live on-site sessions, virtual instructor-led training, recorded video courses, or interactive online modules depending on what works best for your team.
✓ Reusable training materials such as slide decks, videos, or online modules that can be used repeatedly for onboarding, refresher training, or annual requirements.
✓ Audience-specific customization so operators, supervisors, and management receive training at the right level of detail for their roles.
✓ Support for tracking and documentation to help you demonstrate who was trained, when, and on what topics if inspectors or auditors ask.
✓ Scalability over time so training can be updated, expanded, or reused as regulations change, staff turnover occurs, or your operations grow.
With RMA, custom environmental training is designed to be practical, defensible, and usable long after the first session is delivered, whether you use it once or rely on it year after year.
Because custom training can look very different depending on what you need. A simple slide deck for internal use requires far less effort than a polished video course or interactive online training used across multiple locations. Delivery method, production quality, audience size, and how long the training will be used all affect cost.
Off-the-shelf training is generic and designed to apply broadly across industries. Custom training is built around your facility, your operations, and your specific regulatory requirements. Many companies start with off-the-shelf content, then realize it does not fully address their risks or reflect how their site actually operates.
Sometimes, yes. If you have in-house expertise and time, internal training can work, and the cost may be limited to staff time. Many clients come to us when they are unsure what needs to be covered, want training that will stand up to inspections, or do not have the bandwidth to build and maintain training on their own.
Custom training can include on-site, instructor-led sessions, virtual training, recorded video courses, interactive online modules, or reusable slide decks for internal delivery. The right format depends on your workforce, how often training will be used, and how you want it delivered.
Training built for repeated use takes more upfront work. It needs to be accurate, durable, and flexible enough to hold up over time, not just effective for a single session.
There’s also a practical reality. When we deliver live training, we’re paid each time we train. When we build a reusable training resource, we typically charge once, even though it may replace years of future sessions. That upfront investment reflects the long-term value and lower cost per use over time.
Yes. Many clients update training over time as regulations change, operations evolve, or new risks are identified. Building training with future updates in mind often makes long-term maintenance easier and more cost-effective.
For organizations with site-specific risks, regulatory exposure, or recurring training needs, custom training often provides better understanding, better retention, and stronger defensibility than generic content. For others, simpler options may be sufficient. Our role is to help you choose the right level of training, not sell you more than you need.
That’s common. We start by understanding your facility, your workforce, and your obligations, then recommend an approach that fits. Sometimes that means a simple solution. Other times it means building something more robust. Either way, the goal is training that actually works.
Custom environmental training pricing varies because training can be built and delivered in many different ways. Some organizations want a simple solution they can deliver internally. Others are looking for a polished, repeatable training program that becomes part of how they onboard and retrain employees over time.

Custom environmental training pricing varies because training can be built and delivered in many different ways. Some organizations want a simple solution they can deliver internally. Others are looking for a polished, repeatable training program that becomes part of how they onboard and retrain employees over time.
A basic slide deck designed for internal delivery requires far less effort than a recorded video course or interactive online training. The format you choose plays a major role in overall cost.
Live, on-site or virtual training is typically scoped as a one-time session. Reusable training such as videos, online modules, or recorded courses requires more upfront development but can be used repeatedly without additional delivery costs.
Training built around your specific facility, processes, and risks takes more time than generic content. Site-specific examples, photos, procedures, and scenarios all add value, but they also add scope.
Training designed for a single audience is simpler than training that needs to work for operators, supervisors, and management. Multiple audiences often require different levels of detail and different content.
Training intended to be reused year after year needs to be built to last. That means clearer structure, stronger documentation, and flexibility for future updates. While this increases upfront cost, it often reduces long-term training expenses.
Simple recorded sessions are very different from professionally produced video or interactive content. Higher production value increases development time and cost, but it can also improve engagement and retention.
If training needs to support completion tracking, testing, or documentation for audits and inspections, additional setup may be required.
Custom training does not have to be overbuilt. There are practical ways to manage scope and cost.
Not every training topic needs high production value. In many cases, a well-built slide deck or recorded session is more than sufficient.
If training will be used repeatedly, investing upfront often lowers the cost per use over time.
Combining related training topics into a single development effort can reduce duplication and overall cost.
Well-designed training can often be updated rather than rebuilt from scratch as regulations or operations change.
Every training project is different, but the examples below help illustrate how scope affects pricing.
Designed for internal delivery with facility-specific content.
Typical Range: $2,500 to $5,000
Instructor-led training delivered to your team with custom content.
Typical Range: $3,000 to $10,000
Custom-built training designed for repeated use across teams or locations.
Typical Range: $7,500 to $25,000+
Sometimes yes, sometimes no.
Custom training makes the most sense when site-specific risks, regulatory exposure, or repeat training needs are involved. For simpler situations, off-the-shelf or internal training may be sufficient.
Our role is to help you choose the right level of training for your organization, not to push you toward a more complex solution than you need.
We’ve helped companies across the country train their teams to meet environmental requirements, reduce risk, and operate more consistently. Resource Management Associates is a key influence to our environmental program. We operate several ready-mix concrete plants in 3 states, which all have unique regulations to deal with. They've assisted in everything from seeking approvals from local townships, preparing SWPPPs, environmental training for employees, and establishing environmental best practices at our concrete plants. RMA has done an excellent job of maintaining compliance with new environmental laws and regulations. By working with RMA we have been proactive and are one step ahead of any visits from environmental agencies.

I first met Doug of RMA in 2002 when I attended an environmental course he developed for the National Ready Mixed Concrete Association. Doug’s ability to effectively communicate and explain the voluminous environmental regulations pertaining to the concrete industry is remarkable. He is truly a gifted speaker and teacher. If you are new to the industry or the environmental field, I strongly recommend participating in Doug’s courses. Since then, we’ve worked together on several projects including an NPDES permitting, and most recently, further development of the Green-Star EMS Program at NRMCA. Doug’s passion, experience, and insight are always welcomed assets on any environmental project.

I’ve known Doug of RMA for over 4 years and have seen him tirelessly and passionately promote best management practices to the industries and good stewardship of the environment while exhibiting a refreshingly honest and compassionate concern for the business. It does not take long for one to see and feel Doug’s enthusiasm and commitment when talking to him or hearing him educate a group on the subject of environmental compliance. He manages to do this while helping the end user accomplish this sometimes incompressible task economically. Having hired RMA to assist with decoding the mass of sometimes confusing and contradicting US EPA and state DEP regulations, I can say with confidence that they know our industry very well. I heartily recommend RMA and Doug Ruhlin for anyone needing professional and ethical council with environmental compliance.

Doug Ruhlin has significantly helped bring sustainability to the concrete industry. The first work we did together was on the NPCA Sustainability Committee. His impact was immediate and positive. Doug brings a holistic view of sustainability. I would ask Doug to explain a concept to the committee and he would arrive prepared and armed with a PowerPoint presentation. He is great communicator and possesses a wealth of knowledge on sustainability and environmental affairs. I hope to continue working with Doug for many years as we continue our good work with the committee.

I have known Doug Ruhlin of RMA for nearly 20 years. RMA has been a leader in the environmental arena for all of that time. They're intimately versed in the key environmental issues that affect aggregates and concrete producers; they know the laws, regulations and both industries thoroughly. RMA has helped steer the formulation of new regulations and they have helped to direct industry's response to the current and new regulations - in multiple states. I would not acquire an existing operation or start a greenfield plant or quarry without consulting Doug.

I have known RMA for many years and I greatly respect their knowledge. They've served on concrete industry committees in leadership roles and have helped develop and professionalize the concrete industry's body of knowledge with regard to environmental management and compliance. The Tennessee Concrete Association hired Doug Ruhlin of RMA to help with a revision to our NPDES Stormwater Management Plan when our statewide permit was last revised. I recently traveled all the way from California to attend the NRMCA Environmental Training in Florida. I was a bit skeptical about whether the course content would be applicable to our plants in CA because the regulatory environment in CA differs so greatly from other states. I've also attended my fair share of boring, generic regulatory courses. I walked away from the course completely blown away by the amount of things I learned. It never occurred to me to look into what we're reporting for TRI and add those constituents to our storm water sampling protocol. I'm also excited to pursue ISO or NRMCA Gold Star Certification for our plants. Doug managed to keep the class engaged with jokes and banter for 2.5 days (not easy to do in a classroom environment). My boss roasted me a bit because I was initially so hesitant to attend the course and I came back to the office bursting with new ideas. Haha. We're already talking about sending others from our team to Florida in the coming years. Cheers.
