Waste & Hazardous Waste Management Done Right
Not sure what types of waste your facility actually generates, or whether any of it is regulated? You’re not alone. A lot of businesses don’t realize they’re considered hazardous waste generators on paper, or that certain common wastes come with specific rules.
At RMA, we help facilities across the U.S. make sense of hazardous waste, universal waste, and general solid waste requirements. Whether you’re trying to figure out what applies to you, clean up documentation, or build a more organized waste program, we’ll help you understand your obligations and put practical systems in place that actually work.
Managing waste at your facility isn’t just about taking out the trash. For many businesses, it means understanding whether you generate hazardous waste, how universal waste fits in, what documentation is required, and how to keep everything organized so it holds up during inspections. We’ve helped everyone from small operations to large, multi-site facilities make sense of their waste streams and build programs that actually work day to day.
Whether you’re just trying to figure out what types of waste you generate, need help determining your hazardous waste generator status, want to clean up accumulation areas and manifests, or are dealing with an inspection or compliance concern, we’ll walk you through exactly what needs to happen. We work under federal and state-specific waste regulations across the country, and we know how requirements can vary depending on where you’re located.
If you want a straightforward, no-stress approach to waste and hazardous waste management, we’re here to help. We’ll help you understand what’s required, put practical systems in place for tracking and documentation, and build a waste program that keeps you organized, compliant, and confident over the long term.

The Short Version: We talk. You tell us what you think you generate (or don’t), we help sort it out, and then we lay out a clear scope, timeline, and cost so you can decide what makes sense.
The path to better waste and hazardous waste management starts with a conversation. That might be an email, a phone call, or a quick Teams meeting. This is not an inspection or a test. It’s simply a chance for us to understand your operation and the types of waste you may be generating.
Some facilities know they generate hazardous waste. Others don’t think they do, but may still generate regulated waste on paper. Some only deal with solid waste, recyclables, electronic waste, or universal waste like batteries or lamps. Many businesses aren’t sure where they fall, and that’s completely normal.
You don’t need to know the terminology or have everything figured out before reaching out. Whether you generate hazardous waste, universal waste, e-waste, or just general solid waste, we’ll help you understand what you have, what rules apply, and what level of program actually makes sense for your facility.
Once we understand your situation, we’ll lay out a clear scope of work, a realistic timeline, and pricing. From there, we can decide together whether working together is the right fit. No pressure and no assumptions.
The Short Version: We help you get classified correctly, set up your waste areas, and make sure your documentation and procedures actually hold up.
Based on what we learn, we help determine whether you are a hazardous waste generator and, if so, which generator category applies to you. If you’re not sure where you fall, that’s fine. We handle the evaluation and any required registration with the appropriate agencies.
If you don’t generate hazardous waste, you may still generate universal waste or other regulated waste streams that come with their own requirements. We help you understand what applies and what doesn’t, without overcomplicating things.
We’ll help lay out your waste management areas, including satellite and central accumulation areas where applicable. That includes guidance on labeling, storage limits, accumulation timeframes, and container management so everything is set up correctly.
We also help with disposal practices and vendors, waste manifests, recordkeeping, and any required training. The goal is to make sure that if an inspector shows up, your documentation is in order and your waste program reflects what the rules actually require for your facility.
The Short Version: We make sure you’re classified correctly, registered if required, and set up with a waste program that actually holds up.
Based on what we learn about your operation and waste streams, we’ll determine whether you’re required to register as a hazardous waste generator. In some cases, facilities must register with the EPA or their state agency, and those registrations fall into different generator categories based on how much hazardous waste is generated.
If registration is required, we handle it for you. We take care of the paperwork, submit the application, work through any follow-up, and help you understand what those generator rules actually mean in practice, not just on paper.
If you don’t fall under hazardous waste generator rules, you may still generate universal waste, electronic waste, or other regulated waste streams. And even facilities that only deal with general solid waste often want a more organized, defensible program.
We help set up your waste areas, including satellite and central accumulation areas where applicable, and provide guidance on labeling, storage limits, disposal methods, vendors, manifests, and recordkeeping. The goal is simple: if an inspector shows up, your waste program makes sense and your documentation is ready.
Whether you’re managing hazardous waste, universal waste, e-waste, or just want a better solid waste program, we help put the right systems in place so waste management is no longer a constant headache.
The Short Version: Some clients just want help getting set up. Others keep us involved long term. We’re flexible either way.
For some facilities, our role is to help identify waste streams, get the right programs in place, and hand things off to their internal team. For others, waste management is ongoing and changes as operations, materials, or production levels shift.
Generator status can change. Waste volumes can increase or decrease. New materials can introduce new requirements. When that happens, we can help reassess what applies and adjust your program so you stay compliant without scrambling.
Many clients choose to keep us involved year over year because it makes waste management smoother. We already understand your operation, your waste streams, and your documentation, which means less disruption and fewer surprises over time.
Whether you need one-time support, periodic check-ins, or a longer-term partner to help manage waste across multiple locations, we’re here to support you in whatever way makes the most sense for your business.
Practical help to understand your waste, stay compliant, and build a program that actually works.
We help you figure out what types of waste your facility generates, whether that’s hazardous waste, universal waste, or general solid waste. If you’re not sure where you fall, that’s normal. We start by understanding your operation and sorting out what rules actually apply.
In many cases, we’ll visit your facility to see how waste is generated, handled, and stored in the real world. An experienced consultant will walk the site with your team, review waste areas, ask questions, and identify waste streams. We don’t send junior staff, and we work efficiently without disrupting operations.
If hazardous waste rules apply, we determine your generator category and handle required registration with the EPA and/or your state agency. We take care of the paperwork, submit applications, and help you understand what those generator requirements actually mean for your facility.
We help set up your waste management areas so they’re compliant and practical. That includes guidance on satellite and central accumulation areas, container management, labeling, accumulation time limits, and internal procedures that match how your facility operates.
We help you establish proper disposal methods, identify vendors, and make sure manifests and records are complete and organized. Whether it’s hazardous waste, universal waste, or other regulated streams, we help make sure your documentation is ready if anyone asks for it.
Waste programs change as operations, materials, and volumes change. We can stay involved to help reassess generator status, update procedures, provide training where required, and support inspections. Whether you want one-time help or an ongoing partner, we scale to fit your needs.
Our waste and hazardous waste management support is built for companies that want to stop guessing, get organized, and know their program will hold up if anyone asks questions. We're a great fit for you if:
✓ You’re not sure what types of waste you generate and want clear answers before you spend money.
✓ You think you might be a hazardous waste generator, but you’re unsure what category you fall under and want it handled it correctly.
✓ You need help setting up or cleaning up waste accumulation areas, labeling, storage practices, and internal procedures.
✓ You want your manifests, disposal records, and documentation organized so you’re ready for inspections.
✓ You’re dealing with an inspection, audit, or compliance concern and need help getting your program back on track quickly.
✓ You manage multiple facilities and want a consistent waste management program across all of them.
✓ You want a practical waste program your team can actually follow, not a binder that nobody understands.
We’ve supported facilities across the country, from single-site businesses to multi-location industrial operations, and helped them build waste programs that are organized, compliant, and realistic to maintain.
If your facility generates any waste beyond basic trash, there’s a good chance there are rules or best practices you’ll want to understand... and we’ve helped companies just like yours get it set up the right way.
What do you mean by waste and hazardous waste programs?
We help facilities understand and manage hazardous waste, universal waste like batteries and lamps, electronic waste, recyclables, and general solid waste. Many companies assume they don't need to have a waste program because they don't think they generate hazardous waste. In reality, most facilities generate some form of regulated waste, even if it is small or occasional.
We don't think we generate hazardous waste. Does this still apply to us?
Very possibly, yes. A lot of businesses generate universal waste, e-waste, or regulated solid waste without realizing there are rules attached. It is extremely common for companies to say "this doesn't apply to us" and later find out that at least part of it does. If it truly does not apply, we will tell you that directly.
How do we know what type of waste we generate?
That is usually not obvious on paper. The most reliable way is to walk the site and look at what is actually being thrown away, stored, or shipped off-site. We typically start with a site visit and waste audit where we identify waste streams, where they come from, and how they are handled day to day.
What is hazardous waste and how do the rules work?
Hazardous waste rules apply based on what the waste is and how much you generate in a month. Your generator status can change over time as volumes go up or down. You do not need to memorize generator categories or thresholds, that's our job. We'll help you understand what category you fall into and what the rules actually mean in practice.
Do we need to register as a hazardous waste generator?
Sometimes. In certain cases, facilities are required to notify EPA or the state and register as a hazardous waste generator. If registration is required, we handle the paperwork, submit the forms, track approvals, and explain what that registration actually means for your operation.
What about universal waste and e-waste?
Even if you're not a hazardous waste generator, other waste rules may still apply. Common examples include batteries, lamps, and electronics. These waste streams come with storage, labeling, accumulation limits, and sometimes training requirements. We help you manage them in a simple, realistic way without overcomplicating things.
Do you perform waste audits and site visits?
Yes. Waste audits and site visits are a core part of building a workable waste program. An experienced consultant comes on-site, walks the facility with your team, asks questions, and observes how waste is actually handled. This is about learning and improving, not pointing fingers.
What does a waste program actually include?
A waste program is about systems, not binders. We help set up waste accumulation areas, labeling, container management, accumulation time limits, disposal methods, and recordkeeping. We also help define training requirements when they apply so that if an inspector ever shows up, everything makes sense and the documentation is ready.
Can you help clean up an existing waste program?
Absolutely. Many clients come to us with a partial program or a binder that does not match what is happening on the floor. We can review what you have, compare it to real practices, and help close gaps without starting from scratch.
Is this a one-time project or ongoing support?
It can be either. Some clients want one-time help to get organized and then hand the program off internally. Others want ongoing support, periodic audits, or help as waste volumes and generator status change. We don't require long-term contracts and scale our involvement up or down based on what you need.
Can you support multiple locations?
Yes. We work with single facilities and multi-site operations. We help keep waste practices consistent across locations while still accounting for how each site actually operates.
What if we are embarrassed about how disorganized things are?
You're not alone! Most facilities are not as organized as they think they should be, especially around waste. Our job is not to judge or shame. It's to help you figure out what applies, get things into a workable state, and make it easier to manage going forward.
